Hopefully integration will get stronger in newer revisions. Integrates with iCal and iPhoto, but I haven't played with that either. That is, if you assign a new task to a Omnifocus/Things from Postbox's contextual menu, the new task will have a link back to the mail msg in Postbox. I have multiple accounts configured in Mail and I would like to see the separate unread counts in the dock icon. It takes a while for the initial indexing to complete, but then searches are instantaneous and far more useful than in other programs. Win.ĭamn good indexing and searching capabilities. For gmail accounts, 'All Mail' defaults as the archive folder. You can assign an Archive Folder for any email account. It seems to be the same thing as google's labels, but since I'm not a big fan of the labeling strategy, I've not used it much. Your favorite topics are listed in the side bar.
Instead of 'Labels', postbox offers the use of 'Topics'. Some features I've found that you might like: I've been trying to work with Postbox lately, and will likely purchase it once my 1 month trial is over. It seems a bit silly to pay $10-$30 for email software. And by the way, Google Notifier does have a "Check Now" option so you can check it manually if you're expecting something.ĮDIT 2: Both of those are developed by Google and completely free. My only complaint with Google Notifier is that you can't control how often it checks for new mail, but if you use Chrome you can add the Google Mail Checker extension to get faster updates, this makes sense to me since if I'm on my computer and in a web browser chances are I'd like to see emails the minute they arrive, but if I'm away the difference between one minute and ten minutes is pretty insignificant.

On top of that, it allows you to make gmail your default mail "app" so it integrates well software that offers the option to email something.įluid might be another alternative if you want gmail in your dock, but this just strikes me as redundant since it's ultimately just another web browser. It sits in your menubar so it's very much out of the way, it works with growl and sound alerts, gives email previews without opening gmail, and allows one (ok two) click access to new mail. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but given the general consensus that gmail's web interface is the best/only way to use all of gmail's features I thought I'd make a suggestion: Google Notifier.
